Melvin W. Knack, 89, of Jacksonville, died Monday, October 24, 2011, at Passavant Area Hospital.
He was born March 28, 1922, in Minonk, the son of Fred and Mary Bonk Knack. He married Kathryn Leonhard on April 12, 1947, in Meredosia.
He is survived by his wife; and their special friends, Roger and Karen Houston of Jacksonville.
Mr. Knack was a farmer in the Meredosia, retiring in 1980. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, serving under General George S. Patton in the European Theatre. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, a life member of Jacksonville VFW Post 1379, a life member of the 12th Armored Division Association, and a member of Meredosia American Legion Post 516. Melvin was a volunteer for Passavant Area Hospital for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, and had made many wood items over the years for the Passavant Bazaar. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Oakland Cemetery in Meredosia. Memorials are suggested to Faith Lutheran Church. Condolences may be left at ww.buchanancody.com.
