Robert D. Jenkins, 92, of Meredosia was reunited in heaven with his wife, Margaret, on March 8, 2012.
He was born June 17, 1919, in Virden, the son of Coy D. and Edna Chestnut Jenkins. He married Margaret Nunn on Dec. 8, 1941, in St. Louis, MO, and she preceded him in death on March 17, 2009.
He is survived by one son, Michael (Marla) Jenkins, and one daughter, Cathy (Bobby, Jr.) Rhoades, both of Meredosia; three grandsons, Charles (Susan) Jenkins of West Chester, OH, William (Tammy) Craddock of Quincy and Brady (Cambrea) Brackett of Murrayville; and four great-grandchildren, Logan, Chip, Storm and Paige. He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Jenkins.
Mr. Jenkins was a member of First Baptist Church of Meredosia. He came to Meredosia in 1937 as a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He then served in the U.S. Navy, before and during World War II, in the Pacific Theatre, and was a member of Meredosia American Legion Post 519. Bob was an advanced collector of Pre-Historic Native American artifacts and was Past President of the Illinois State Archeological Society. He had operated the Illico Service Station in Meredosia for thirty-four years.
