Walfred Leroy Trumbo, Jr., 71, of Jacksonville, passed away Monday, July 23, 2012, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 1, 1940, in Jacksonville, the son of Walfred, Sr. and Cordelia Carpenter Trumbo. He married Shirley Jamerson Woods on June 20, 1994, in Las Vegas, NV and she survives.

He is also survived by three daughters, Glori Simpson and Janine (Alfred) Bradley, both of Decatur, and Bridgette (Rico Mitchell) Trumbo of Springfield; one son, Landon Trumbo of Jacksonville; three step-daughters, Demetria (Andy) Stafford of Decatur, and April Woods and Courtney (Curtis Ervin) Woods of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Curtis Trumbo of Jacksonville; and two sisters, JoAnn Muhammad of Indianapolis, IN and Adeline Madden of Springfield. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Trumbo and Gloria Hammers.

Mr. Trumbo was a 1958 graduate of Jacksonville High School. He retired after 28 years from CIPS in Meredosia. Prior to that he worked at the Jacksonville Developmental Center and the Dunlap Hotel. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and pool, and listening to the blues. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and especially loved being with his grandchildren.

The family will meet friends 4-6 p.m. Friday at Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville. There will be no service. The family requests no food be taken to the home, but suggests memorials given to the Alzheimer’s Association. Condolences may be left at www.buchanancody.com.
