Doris Marcella Long

Doris Marcella Long, 92, of Virginia, IL died Sunday, August 5, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

She was born May 6, 1920 in Ray, IL; the daughter of Andrew J. and Lela M. Sipes Smith. She married Donald C. Long on March 1, 1947 in Bluff Springs, IL and he preceded her in death on October 9, 1999. She is survived by a son, Harry J. “Butch” Long (wife, Anna Ruth) of Virginia; three daughters, Donna M. Dobey (husband, James) of Pekin, Karen M. Parrish (companion, Roger Stock) of Virginia, and Betty A. Eilers (husband, Michael) of Chandlerville; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, Cline, Jackie Jr., and Duane Smith and by three sisters, Mildred Norman, Maxine Smith, and Verna Burke.

Mrs. Long retired in 1998 from the Virginia School District following 32 years of employment. She was a member of the Cass County Home Extension and enjoyed going out for coffee with good friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. The family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial gifts are suggested to MECCA Ambulance or Walker Nursing Home Activity Fund.
