Joyce Jeanette Carroll Kelly, 85 of Ashland, IL died Monday, February 18, 2013 at Heritage Health in Jacksonville.
Joyce was born November 10, 1927 in Russell, KS, the daughter of Glenn and Fern Crissman Carroll. She married Calvin K. Kelly on September 16, 1948 in Plainfield, IA. Following 63 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on October 23, 2011.
She is survived by five children, Marcia L. Abeln (husband, Dennis) of Salisbury, MO, Patsy C. Kelly (husband, Dr. Harvey Mack) of Jacksonville, Melanie J. Timmerman (husband, Kevin) of LaCrosse, WI, Lana J. Pfaffe (husband, Jeffrey) of Ashland, and Tim G. Kelly of Ashland; 12 grandchildren, Justin Locke (wife, Kendall) of Glasgow, MO, Jeremy Locke of Salisbury, MO, Jonathan Locke (wife, Jodie) of Macon, MO, Shawn Kelly Mack and Patrick Kelly Mack, both of Jacksonville, Maura Timmerman of Tempe, AZ, Kelly Timmerman of LaCrosse, WI, Michael Copley (wife, Sarah) of Athens, Haley and Lauren Pfaffe, both of Ashland, and Grant and Erin Kelly, both of Ashland; five great grandchildren, Ainsley, Paisley, Rafe and Emma Locke and Wesley Copley; a niece, Michelle Carroll Hovermale of Shawnee, KS; and a nephew, Martin Todd Carroll of Strasburg, VA.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Fern, when Joyce was only 18 months old; her father, Glenn; two step mothers, Mary and Stella; her foster son, Adrian Goode; and a brother, Frederick Carroll.
After attending business school, Joyce became an accredited medical transcriptionist. She transcribed medical records at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville for 35 years. Joyce was an active member of her Ashland community and thrived when her large family came to the family home. She will always be remembered as a faithful wife to Calvin and a devoted mother and grandmother.
At her request, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will be held 10:00 am Saturday, February 23, 2013, at the New Beginnings Christian Fellowship in Ashland with committal services to follow at Yatesville Cemetery, west of Prentice. The family will meet friends from 5:00 to 6:30 pm Friday at the New Beginnings Christian Fellowship in Ashland. Memorial gifts are suggested to Passavant Hospital Chaplain’s Assistance Fund, Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice, or Ashland Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry.
