Obituary

Alice M. Easley has passed from this life on February 14, 2021, and on to the next life. Alice Easley was born the daughter of Clarence Joseph Beide and Minnie Lee Durham on July 9, 1941, in Cooperstown, township in rural Versailles, Illinois. When Alice met Courtney "Zip" Easley, it was a friendship that was everlasting that ended in a love that was a love of a lifetime. Alice and Courtney were married on July 13, 1963, at the post office in Virginia. After going to the bar to get the judge to marry them, they then came to Meredosia, and stopped at Bert and Freda Floyds filling station to have a hamburger and then they both went to work. Well, that is not like todays weddings, is it In her younger years, Alice worked at a chicken factory for a little while in Augusta, and after that had a job working at the Arrow Restaurant in Beardstown for a few years. If you went to the Easley household hungry, you sure didnt leave that way. "I always said my food dont taste like my moms and mom always said she could never make the same dish taste the same a second time around cooking it". Alice and her mom would have big fish frys over at the river where her dad and brothers farmed. From what Alice told me, they would have two extra large cast iron frying pans both loaded with fish. They had some good picnics over at the river too. Those were the days. Then in later years, Alice enjoyed accompanying her husband on his 73rd tank battalion reunions. It took them from coast to coast. Alice and Courtney were members of a square dance club, "The Riverboat Ramblers", for 10 years. Alice enjoyed making their square dance clothes and then their daughters when she joined them. Alice also sewed all of the blocks on a couple of quilts by hand that she made. Alice took life by the hand and enjoyed every minute of it she could: especially her grandchildren Callie Easley, Caleb Easley, and her great-granddaughter Alyssia Rose Marie Livingston whom she adored. Alice could also be mischievous at times. She liked to play with your mind is what I always said, but then again I believe she got that from her dad, because he did that too. Alice is survived by two daughters: Cindy Easley LeQuire (companion John Dawson) and Claudene Easley Ridlen (husband Bill Ridlen); and her grandchildren: Caleb Easley and Callie Easley and great-granddaughter Alyssia Rose Marie Livingston. Alice was preceded in death by her husband Courtney Easley on October 14, 2015; a daughter, Joyce Elaine Easley on April 2, 1968; three brothers, Lester Delbert Beide, Edwin Joseph Beide, and Frank Arthur Beide; her parents, Clarence Joseph and Minnie Lee Beide; and an uncle (Hunky) Vern Beide. Per Alices request, there will be a closed casket and graveside services for a small gathering being permitted. "Please do not mourn my passing, for I am with my husband and family. Rejoice in the fact that we will meet again. Love, Alice" A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, at Oakland Cemetery in Meredosia. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Meredosia is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be left at buchanancody.com.
