Alta June Powell, 97, of Jacksonville, IL, died Saturday, June 25, 2022, at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing and Rehab. She was born April 5, 1925, in rural Bluffs, the daughter of Lawrence Benjamin and Nadine Whiteneck Powers. She was married to Riley Powell, and he preceded her in death. She is survived by several nieces and nephews including Robert (Sheila) Powers of St. Louis, MO and Suanne (Larry) Leverly of Washington, IL; and several great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Donald Powers and Robert Joe Powers. June was a telephone operator for General Telephone Company in Jacksonville for over 45 years. She enjoyed genealogy and researching her family history. Cremation rites have been accorded. Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Jacksonville Area Genealogical and Historical Society.
