She was born Nov. 23, 1932, in Chicago, the daughter of Glenn and Grace (Fry) Patterson. She married Myron C. "Mike" Madsen Oct. 4, 1952, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2013.

She is survived by one son and two daughters, Steve (Laura) Madsen of Crowley, TX, Becky (Craig) Gillam of St. Charles, and Kris (Gregg) McClelland of Dunlap; ten grandchildren, Jillian (Travis) Becquet, Kirsten (Nicky) Dover, Haley (Alan) Jones, Gus Gillam, Ashley (Ian) Nunnery, Lindsey (Caleb) York, Jaime (Chris) Leonard, Tara McClelland, Benjamin McClelland, and Timothy McClelland; eight great grandchildren, Katherine, Alden and Claire Becquet, Hazel Dover, Lucy and Olive York, Eliza McClelland, and Edison Nunnery; and one sister, Linda (Ed) Siert of Delavan, WI.

Barb was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church in Jacksonville and was currently a member of Vineyard Church-Peoria. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi and had been very active in Scouting and served as the President of Two Rivers Girl Scout Council. She was also a coordinator for an exchange student program. Barb's ever open arms extended not only to the family and communities she loved, but to the lives of eight foreign exchange students she and Mike hosted in their home, as well as the many dogs they fostered and loved. She spent the last two years at Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria, and her family is grateful for the care she received.
