Bernice Scott Allen, 97, of Meredosia, IL, died Friday, August 11, 2023, at Robings Manor in Brighton.

She was born Sept. 15, 1925, in Meredosia, to the late Russell "Red" and Anna (Icke) Scott. She married Lloyd W. Allen on Jan. 9, 1943, in Bowling Green, MO, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 2008.

She is survived by four children, Joe Dean Allen of Lakeland, TN, Anna B. Atwood of Lakeland, TN, Michael Lloyd (Sherry) Allen of Brighton and Randy Wayne Allen (companion, Wanda Hunt) of Meredosia; and many grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Kenneth and Robert Scott; three sisters, Virginia Livsey, Pauline Belville and Mary Miller; and one great grandson, Damian Smith.

Mrs. Allen was a nurse's aide for many years working in nursing homes in Jerseyville, IL, Beardstown, IL and Longview, TX. She loved to crochet and worked with her mother on crafts. She made many of the clothes her children and she wore. She also served many other people. She loved playing the piano and singing. She was a member of Gospel Assembly Church in both Jerseyville and Meredosia.

Bernice and her husband moved to Pinson, TN in 2002. After her husband's death in 2008, she moved back to Meredosia in 2009.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, August 17, 2023, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Meredosia with burial at Oakland Cemetery in Meredosia. The family will meet friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to Meredosia Rescue Squad. Condolences may be sent online at buchanancody.com.
