She was born June 22, 1931, at home in Decatur, the daughter of Edward and Gladys (Grubbs) Hantle. Betty married William E. "Bill" Garver on September 17, 1949, in Decatur. He preceded her in death on December 17, 2019.
Betty is survived by her children, Debby (Richard) Krohe, Kathy (Ed) Snow, Chris (Michael) Yost, Diane (James) Dambacher, Beth (Ricky) Cox, Bill (Jackie) Garver Jr., David (Aura) Garver, Patrick (Anita) Garver, and Tim Garver; twenty-nine grandchildren; forty-five great grandchildren; and multiple nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Marie Chevron, Eugene Hantle, Bernard Hantle, Therese Miller, and Sharon Dulgar; grandchildren, Autumn Graves, Micah Mefford, and Bridget Dambacher; and some nieces and nephews.
Betty graduated in 1949 from St. Teresa High School in Decatur, where she grew up. She worked at the Virginia School District as the librarian for over 30 years. Mrs. Garver was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Virginia since 1966, when her and Bill moved to Virginia from Decatur. She was also a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader.
Betty enjoyed playing bridge and singing in the Community Choir. She loved to send birthday cards to all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty also loved going to all of her their events, even if it involved travel, as she was their biggest superfan. She was affectionately nicknamed "Grandma Betty" by several close friends in the community.
The family wanted to give a big thanks to Walker Nursing Home and Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice, who gave her wonderful care.
