Obituary

Betty Lou Green, 70, of Jacksonville, IL, and formerly of Meredosia, died Thursday, June 19, 2025, at The Grove Nursing and Rehab in Jacksonville.

She was born June 29, 1954, in Beardstown, the daughter of Allen and Vivian Potter. Betty married Gary Green on May 8, 1976.

She is survived by her husband; son, Zach Green (Kat Silverio) of Edwardsville; and many friends.

Betty graduated from Meredosia High School in 1972, and then from Spoon River College with a degree in English. She has had various jobs over the years. Betty first worked at Perma-Bound Books, where she met Gary. She then ran and managed Country Market, a convenience store, for several years. Betty also worked at Springfield Area Vocational Center, now called Capital Area Career Center, and then for MacMurray College in continuing education. She last worked at Diversified Crop Insurance up until 2018.

Betty enjoyed puns and jokes and would love to send the joke of the day to her coworkers at Diversified. She also liked to plant flowers, garden, bake, and to go antique hunting. Betty loved going to the Spoon River Valley Scenic Drive Fall Festival, an arts & crafts fair in Canton, IL. She didn't attend church, but she was a spiritual person. Betty loved her cats, Ham and Chick.

Betty's wishes were to be cremated. The family will meet friends 4:00 – 6:00 PM Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville. In memory of Betty, memorials can be donated to the Memorial Health Foundation, specially going towards their Physical Therapy and Rehab program. Condolences may be left online at buchanancody.com.
