Bonita Ann "Bo" Bartels, 58, of Jacksonville, IL, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Friday morning, September 16, 2022. She was born in Beardstown, on May 17, 1964, the daughter of Betty and Orville M. Bartels. Bonita is survived by her brothers and sisters: Gary (Nancy) Bartels, Greg (Cindy) Mathis, David Bartels, Steve (Kim) Bartels, and Kimberly Bartels, all of Chandlerville, and Denise (Mark) Dempsey of Springfield; her life partner, Michelle Kingston of Jacksonville; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She loved them all, but held a special place in her heart for Luke and Anna Williams. She is also survived by aunts and uncles, Jean Force of Beardstown, Bonnie (Gary) Abney of Thomson, Linda (Larry) Stake and Mary Cox, of Chillicothe, and John Carey of Rushville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Betty and Fred Mathis and Orville M. Bartels; and two brothers, Sheldon W. Bartels and Byron Bartels. Bonita recently celebrated her 30th year at Reynolds Consumer Products in Jacksonville. Reynolds was her second family, leaving behind her dear friend and treasured work partner, Marc Stone. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Her hobbies included riding her motorcycle, morel mushroom hunting, history, and rescuing animals. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Chandlerville Cemetery. The family will meet friends 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Springfield Park District Special Olympics or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
