Bonnie Jean (Edlen) Smith, 82, of Meredosia, IL, died Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at her home. She was born November 6, 1939, in Meredosia, the daughter of Robert and Lena Surratt Edlen. She married Billy J. Smith June 26, 1956, in Meredosia, and he preceded her in death on June 17, 2008. Bonnie is survived by four children, Julie (Mark) Ginster of Springfield, Roy (Debra) Smith of St. Peters, MO, Laura (Larry) Ruyle of South Jacksonville, and Elizabeth Smith of Algonquin; nine grandchildren, Ryan (Lesly) Ginster, Andrew (Katie) Ginster, Lindsay (Nick) Hovis, Nick (Katya) Smith, Lauren Smith, Cameron (Lesly) Ruyle, Hayley Ruyle (fianc Kyle Phillips), Meghan Ruyle, and Corey Ruyle (companion, Megan Loveland); and two great grandchildren, Jakob Smith and Phoebe Ginster. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaughter, Emily Ginster Parker; and three sisters and one brother, Barbara Newman, Larry Edlen, Doris Charles, and Rosia Mary Buhlig. Mrs. Smith had been a longtime member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Meredosia, where she was involved with the Food Pantry. She was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and was a member of Meredosia Junior Womens Club. Bonnie enjoyed swimming, shopping, and going to movies. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2022, at Oxville Cemetery, south of Bluffs.
