Carol Davis
Drennan
Apr 20, 1933 — Feb 24, 2022
Carol Davis Drennan of Jacksonville died Feb 24, 2022, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia, IL. Born in Bloomington, April 20, 1933, she was the daughter of Everett Daniel Davis and Dorothy Danzeiser Davis Bevan. She married James Anderson Drennan in 1954. He preceded her in death in 2008. Surviving are daughters Nancy Becker (Gary) of Jacksonville and Kirby Drennan (Robert Winkelman) of Virginia; two grandsons, Joel Anderson K. Drennan (Kayse) of Forest, VA, and Dirk Charles Winkelman (companion Lucy Cade) of Ankeny, Iowa; and three great grandchildren, Zoey, Ollie, and Luna Drennan. Carol enjoyed a life of learning. She graduated from Morton Township High School, valedictorian of her class in 1951. She received her Bachelors degree in Chemistry from Knox College in 1955 and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. During her life she studied many favorite topics and wrote papers on each. While her husband finished medical school in St Louis, MO, she worked in a laboratory, started a family, and became a life member of the St Louis Zoo. She had a love for animals and rescued and healed many. Her husbands Naval career took her from St Louis to San Leandro, CA, for several years and then to Iwakuni, Japan for 3 years where she took classes to learn the Japanese language, taught classes to teach English, and learned about Japanese culture, doll making, and flower arrangement. She also was a member of the Iwakuni Skeet and Trap club and was a very good shot. Her next home was in Corpus Christ, TX for one year of enjoying evenings on Padre Island when it was an empty beach. She then settled in her husbands hometown of Jacksonville, where he began his medical practice and she became his office manager, book and peace keeper. She became a member and was active in the Congregational Church. In spare time, with both daughters, she could finally pursue her interest in horses and dressage riding lessons which she began in her 40s and continued into her 70s. She fed, doctored, and adored her horses, including several Davenport Arabians and her retired racehorse, who are still with us today. Carol was a great mom, doting grandma, and best friend. She will be missed. Following her wishes, she has been cremated. There will be no services until a later date when she and her husband will be buried at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the donors choice, the Congregational Church, PAWS, The Davenport Arabian Horse Conservancy, or the Jacksonville Area Museum. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville is assisting in arrangements. Condolences may be left at buchanancody.com. .
