David Eugene Smith, 59, of Jacksonville, IL, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022, at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 5, 1962, in Jacksonville, the son of Richard and Judy Baptist Smith. He was married to Dawn Schierl. He is survived by one daughter and one son, Molly Smith of Virginia and Luke Smith of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Lenore and Oscar Smith; and two brothers and one sister, Kerry Smith of Edwardsville, Kevin Smith of Jacksonville, and Sheri Thompson (George) Seroka of Avon, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents. David had a strong work ethic and worked for Mobil Chemical in Jacksonville for many years. He was passionate about his kids, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and just being outdoors. You could find him sitting in the sun listening to music just enjoying the moment. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held 1-5 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Muggsy's Fine Dining in Jacksonville. Memorials are suggested to Muscular Dystrophy Association.
