David Dean Smock, 69, of Ashland, Illinois, died Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

He was born November 16, 1955, in White Hall, the son of Richard A. and Shirley A. (Newingham) Smock, Sr. Dave married Dottie Cowan on June 8, 1974, and she survives in Ashland.

He is also survived by his children, Mindy (Derek) DeGroot, Melissa (Chris) Mowry, Mallory (Jarod) Cain, and David (Jakki) Smock II, all of Ashland; grandchildren, Daerial (Brady) Robinson, Daegan DeGroot, Dane (Riley) DeGroot, Tyler Minor, Nataley Minor, Blake Mowry, Ava James, Wyatt Cain, Zoey Cain, Gretta Smock, Willow Smock, and Tilly Smock; great grandchildren, Aurora and Bristol Robinson, Norah Lindy, and Emmy Mowry; brothers, Dennis (Kathy) Smock and Richie Smock Jr. (late wife, Janet), both of Ashland; sisters, Brenda (Charley) Kennedy of Ashland and Louann (Bob) Duff of Chatham; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dana Hobbs.

Dave worked as a truck driver with the CB handle "Gravy." He mainly worked for Mark Stribling. Dave enjoyed anything to do with cars or trucks, like mud running and drag racing. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Ashland from 5-7 PM. Cremation rites will follow.
