Obituary

Doris May Collins, 97, of Jacksonville, Illinois, died Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing and Rehab.

She was born March 7, 1929, in White Hall, the daughter of George and Lula Amanda (Harris) Cox. Doris first married Joseph Clark and he died in 1967. She later married Charles Collins, and he also preceded her in death in 2013.

She is survived by her daughters, Lisa DeGroot of Jacksonville and Jody (Jeff) Smith of Matanzas Beach, Illinois; grandchildren, Richard (Shelby) Emmons Jr., Dillon (Julie) DeGroot, and Shelly Reno; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Joseph Clark and Charles Collins; grandson, Dustin DeGroot; and siblings, Pauline Dale, Delores Albers, Mary Phillips, and Lyle Cox.

Doris graduated from White Hall High School. She worked retail jobs at The Emporium and Kline’s in Jacksonville, and later for Jacksonville Journal Courier. In her free time, she enjoyed games like scrabble, word searches, canasta, and bingo. She also liked keeping up with wrestling and TV series shows, like Seinfeld, The West Wing, and Days of Our Lives. Her favorite color was pink and she liked anything sparkly.

Doris loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. When they were young, the families would gather for garage sales and spaghetti dinners at Grandma’s every Saturday.

Cremations services have been rendered. Memorial donations are suggested to the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home to go towards cremation services. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville is assisting the family with arrangements.
