Dorothy Irene Zimmer, 96, of Jacksonville, IL, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing and Rehab. She was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Pike County, the daughter of William E. and Pearl L. McGlauchlen Betts. She married Theodore L. "Ted" Zimmer on June 21, 1946, in Jacksonville, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1997. She is survived by one son, James Zimmer (Darlene) of Bois DArc, MO; five grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; her sister, Geneva Connor of Reynoldsburg, OH; her brother, Clark Betts of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Zimmer (surviving wife, Catherine of Plymouth, IN); one brother, Eugene Morrow; and three sisters, Norma Jennings, Wilma Dickson and Jewell Krumpf. In March of 1945, Dorothys family moved to Jacksonville to establish a restaurant. As a young girl waiting tables, she met her husband following WWII. She was later employed at Norbury Sanitorium in the laundry department and was also a homemaker and babysitter. She was a member of LIFE Church of Jacksonville. A graveside service for family and friends will be held 2:30 pm Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023, at Ebenezer Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to LIFE Church or Pregnancy Resource Center.
