Edward H. Murphy, of Jacksonville, IL died Thursday, Apr. 27, 2023, at Cross City Rehab & Health Facility in Cross City, FL. He was born Jan. 15, 1933, in Jacksonville, the son of Harry and Lula Solter Murphy. He married Mary F. Kramer on Jan. 1, 1955, in LaGrange, MO and she preceded him in death on Aug. 14, 2016. He is survived by three sons, Steve (LuAnne) Murphy of Jacksonville, Wayne (Rachel) Murphy of Horseshoe Beach, FL, and Neal (Michelle) Murphy of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren, Becky (Eric) Holmes and Daniel (Patty) Murphy, both of Winchester, and Emily (Darrin) Barber, Lisa (Donny) Mortimer, and Corey Murphy, all of Jacksonville; many great and great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Marjorie Engel of Augusta, IL, and Beverly (John) Anderson of Indianola, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one son, Dale L. Murphy. Mr. Murphy was a 1952 graduate of Jacksonville High School. He then attended Machinist School in Chicago and began his career at Mobil Chemical in Jacksonville, retiring as a machinist after many years of service. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Harmony Lodge #3, both in Jacksonville. Ed loved gardening and traveling. A funeral service will be held 12 noon on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church with burial at Jacksonville Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Masonic Rites will be held at 10:30 a.m., followed by a visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church or Harmony Lodge #3.
