Ernest Edward Klopfer, 91, of Springfield, IL and formerly of Meredosia, IL, died Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at his home. He was born Sept. 22, 1930, in Cheyenne, WY, the son of Arthur Ernest and Helena Mock Klopfer. He married Theresa Marie Jones on June 12, 1953, at St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Arenzville, and she preceded him in death on June 20, 2002. He later married Ruth Jean Hutchings Carmean on Feb. 14, 2008, in Beardstown, and she survives. He is also survived by one son, Gerald Arthur (Lisa) Klopfer of Springfield; one daughter, Kathleen Ann (Bruce) Hernbroth of Elburn; nine granddaughters and three grandsons; fourteen great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Lois May (Darold) VanHyning and Bonnie Lee Sullinger, all of Meredosia; and one brother, Francis Keith (Martha) Klopfer of Meredosia. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Ernest Klopfer; his mother, Helena Logsdon; his first wife, Theresa Marie; one son, Dennis Edward Klopfer (surviving wife, Tina of Bluffs); one daughter, Karen Sue Klopfer Luckett; and two brothers, Robert Arthur Klopfer and Richard LeRoy Klopfer in infancy. Mr. Klopfer was a carpenter for R.D. Lawrence for many years. He attended St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Arenzville, St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown, and later attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Springfield. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the Meredosia American Legion. He loved to play golf, enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball with the Meredosia Merchants, and enjoyed camping. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 am Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 722 S. 12th Street, Springfield, IL 62703. A visitation will be held 1:30 3:00 pm Saturday at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Meredosia, followed by burial at Oakland Cemetery.
