George W.
Anderson
Dec 10, 1942 — Aug 11, 2024
George W. Anderson, 81, of Springfield IL died Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Regency Care in Springfield. He was born December 10, 1942, in Virginia, the son of Howard P. and Beulah A. (Gerdes) Anderson. He married Judy (Davis) Anderson in 1969.
He is survived by his wife, sons Craig Anderson (significant other Carmen Stokes) and Chad Anderson (wife Brittney), and grandsons Jonathan Anderson and Connor Anderson, all of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Richard Anderson, Lyle Anderson, Andrew Anderson, and Leroy Anderson; three sisters, Charlene Anderson, Joan Coffey and Mary Gregory Murphy; and three half-siblings, Wilbur Anderson, Robert Anderson, and Helen Smith.
George is a graduate of Virginia High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran. Over his professional career, he was co-owner of D'our Implement Company and retired from United Contractors Midwest (UCM).
In his personal relations, George lived a life of grace, integrity, dignity, and kindness. His honesty and strong morality marked every aspect of his life and that life was marked by the people he touched with his kindness. George lived a life where all who had dealings with him came away with a smile.
George was a loving husband, proud father, and rock to many. He will be remembered by his sense of humor, kindness, and love of ice cream. In remembrance of him, go out of your way to make someone smile, give without expecting anything in return, and generally make life a little better for someone else. I know that would put a smile on his face.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2024, at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Cherry Hills Church in Springfield. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent online at buchanancody.com.
