Obituary

Gerald Wayne Bettis, 64, of Jacksonville, IL, affectionately known as Wayne, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital.

He was born on January 22, 1961, in Clovis, NM, the son of Arthur Wayne and Nora Evelyn (Draughan) Bettis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maureen Bettis.

Wayne is survived by his devoted partner, Connie Fairless of Jacksonville; his sister, Tammy Barton and her husband, Gerry, of Jacksonville; his brother, Dean Bettis and his wife, Stephanie, of Durango, Colorado; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind Connie's sons and their families. Wayne was especially close to his grandchildren, who held a very special place in his heart. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his sister.

Wayne spent much of his career working for EMI in Jacksonville, Illinois, and later retired from the Illinois Department of Human Services/TDF in Rushville, Illinois.

He loved music, had a deep interest in history, proudly cheered for the Fighting Illini, and enjoyed collecting antiques that reflected his appreciation for the past.

Wayne will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
