James P. Burke, 84, of Franklin, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2023, at his home. He was born Nov. 14, 1938, in Jacksonville, the son of James J. and Vivian J. Craddock Burke. He married Sylvia Reed on Dec. 22, 1962, at Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Sylvia; three daughters, Sarah, Cynthia and Kathryn; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Martin "Marty" D. Burke (surviving wife, Patsy of Woodson). Jim was a 1956 graduate of Routt High School and was a Golden Class Graduate of Illinois College. He had worked for Meadow Gold Dairy, JC Penney, was a National Sales Manager at Hertzberg - New Method and retired from the Department of Corrections. He was an avid fisherman, golfer and had a passion for aviation, serving as a member of the Indiana Air Patrol. The Burke family is planning a Celebration of Life in remembrance of Jim in the Spring. Those wishing to memorialize Jim may make memorials to the Routt Catholic High School Burke Family Legacy Scholarship. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements.
