Janet Smith, 88, of Jacksonville, IL, died Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Scott County Nursing Center in Winchester.

She was born May 4, 1937, in Springfield, the daughter of Mervin and Jessie (Carmichael) Gustaveson. She married C.R. Smith and he preceded her in death.

Janet is survived by her sons, Bret (Sharon) Davenport of Jacksonville and Scot (Lesley) Davenport of Bluffs; grandchildren, Justin (Hilary) Davenport, Derek (Hannah) Davenport, Kory Davenport, Amanda Davenport, Ashley (Ross) Scoggins, Racenda Chaplin, and Tiffany (Brian) Holsman; and fifteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Randal Davenport; and brother, Donald Gustaveson (surviving wife, Veda of Lumber Bridge, NC).

Janet graduated from Springfield High School and then earned an accounting degree at Springfield College. She worked several bookkeeping jobs in and around the Springfield and Jacksonville area over the years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville. Janet was also a member of the Prairieland Heritage Museum and Starlite Campers, both in Jacksonville.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, painting, and quilting. Janet was also an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball and Green Bay Packers fan.

A graveside service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Winchester Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to Prairieland Heritage Museum or to Shriners Hospitals for Children. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
