Jewel A. Newby, 91, of Jacksonville, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2023, at Prairie Village Healthcare Center in Jacksonville.

She was born Sept. 12, 1931, in Monticello, KY, the daughter of Everett and Dinah (Jones) Alexander. She married Earl Morris Newby in January of 1951, in Franklin, and he preceded her in death on July 11, 2010.

She is survived by one daughter, Karen (Ray) Mellor of Jacksonville; two sons, Dale (Cindy) Newby, and Gerald (Edie) Newby, all of Jacksonville; six grandchildren, Lynn (Zach) Bastoky, William (Michelle) Mellor, Paul (Alexa) Newby, Jonathon Newby, Jeffrey Newby, and Kirkland Newby; and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Glen Alexander; and two sisters, Faye Hicks and Mary Alexander.

Jewel retired from Capitol Records in Jacksonville. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, quilting, and camping. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 am Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, followed by a graveside service at Jacksonville Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
