Joann J. Sudbrink, 91, of Virginia, Illinois, passed away Monday, April 20, 2026, at Cass County Senior Living & Rehabilitation due to complications from a recent fall.

She was born June 9, 1934 in Beardstown, IL, the daughter of Lester Lee and Beulah (Smith) Bell. A 1952 graduate of Virginia High School, Joann became an active and devoted member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Virginia, where she was baptized on March 8, 1953. She married Edwin B. Sudbrink on December 18, 1954, at Grace Lutheran Church, and together they farmed in rural Virginia for many years. Ed preceded her in death on July 14, 1993. After Ed's passing, Joann volunteered at Walker Nursing Home in the Activity Department, and later became an employee there. She recently retired from full-time employment at the age of 90. She taught Sunday School and was the Financial Secretary at Grace Lutheran Church for many years.

Joann was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Betty J. Davidsmeier (deceased husband, Butch) from Virginia and Marilyn I. Harrison (surviving husband Jim) from Bushnell, IL.

Joann is survived by her brother, Ronnie L. Bell (Shirley) of Virginia, and many nieces and nephews and their extended families. Also surviving is Kim Meyer of Springfield, who was a very special person in her life and whom she loved as a daughter.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2026, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia, with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial donations are suggested to the Grace Lutheran Church or to the Cass County Senior Living & Rehabilitation Activity Fund.
