John "Tucker" Ruyle Jr., 85, of Meredosia, IL, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born Aug. 9, 1938, in Meredosia, the son of John Sr. and Lena Alice Isabella (Newman) Ruyle. He married Wanda Maxine McDannald on July 2, 1960, in Meredosia and she preceded him in death on April 11, 2019.

He is survived by his son, Patrick John (Sherri) Ruyle of Winchester; his daughter, Cynthia Alice "Cindy" (Aaron) Walker of Versailles; three grandchildren, Caleb (Breana Lovel) Ruyle, Kendall (Katie) Ruyle, and Lance (Paige) McGinnis; one step granddaughter, Courtney (Tyler) Grimsley; and seven great grandchildren, Sadie, Hadlee, Reid, Parker, Brantley, Connor, and Elliott. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and eight brothers and sisters, Loretta Flynn, Lawrence Ruyle, Doris Hilton, Dean Ruyle, Leon Ruyle (surviving wife Carol of Meredosia), Linda Lou Asbury, Connie Petri, and Sharon Lee Ruyle in infancy.

Mr. Ruyle was a 1956 graduate of Meredosia High School. He was a veteran of the U.S Army, serving from 1962-64 at Fort Hood, Texas. He retired as Plant Manager after 44 years from TA Terminal in Meredosia. Tucker was a Die Hard Chicago Cubs fan, and enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, trapping and mushrooming. He also enjoyed going to the casino. The family would like to thank his niece, Jennifer Bennett, for the special care she provided for the last several years, allowing Tucker to stay in his home.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Meredosia, with burial at Oakland Cemetery. The family will meet friends 6-7:30 Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Meredosia Fire Department or to Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.
