Josephine Elizabeth Coop, 96, of Jacksonville, Illinois and formerly of Minooka, went to be with her heavenly family on Thursday, July 7, 2022. Jo was born in Chicago on December 19, 1925. She was the only child of Robert and Catherine Vice Lindsay and grew up in Morris. After graduating from Morris High School Jo trained at Saint Josephs Hospital in Joliet to become a registered nurse. Over the years she practiced at Saint Josephs Hospital, Morris Hospital and Cardinal Nursing Home and did private duty nursing. On June 7, 1947, she married Ralph Coop and they had three children together, Evelyn (Gary) Isbell of Bentonville, Arkansas, Richard (Melody) Coop of Jacksonville, and Donald (Joan) Coop of Minooka, all living today. She is also survived by13 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Jo and Ralph farmed in the Minooka area, raising crops and livestock, until Ralphs passing in 1978. She enjoyed raising her kids on the farm and helping with 4H projects. After Ralphs death she continued living on the farm until 2005, always having meals ready for Ric and Don as they continued farming the ground and baked goods for her grandchildren. When the home farm was sold in 2005, Jo moved to town in Minooka and lived independently until she was 94 when she moved to an assisted living home in Jacksonville. Jo was active in the American Legion Auxiliary serving as 12th District President. Ralph was the State commander of the American Legion in 1974 and together they traveled throughout the state and enjoyed going to national conventions across the country. Jos biggest joy was spending time with her family which she loved dearly. Jo was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Minooka, serving on various committees throughout the years. A celebration of life will be held at the Minooka Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2022, with a lunch to follow. Memorials may be sent to the Minooka Methodist Church Building Fund in her name. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville is assisting the family.
