Karin Christine Chumley, 62, of Jacksonville, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, September 7th, 2025, at Hallmark Healthcare Nursing Home in Carlinville.

Karin was born June 20th, 1963, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Thomas & Phyllis (Wilder) Chumley.

Karin is survived by her son, Matthew Chumley (wife, Anna), and her daughter, Katelyn Chumley, both of Jacksonville, and her granddaughters, Camryn, Iyla, Chloe, and Giana Chumley. She also is survived by her sister, Carol Kluge, and her father, Thomas Chumley, both of Jacksonville, along with several nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis.

Karin was a loving mother, silly MawMaw, and caring friend. She spent her entire working life as a nurse before she retired in 2019 due to a dementia diagnosis. She spent the majority of her nursing career at the Morgan County Health Department, where she touched the lives of many. She also worked as a nurse at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired and the Jacksonville School District (JSD) 117 Early Years Program.

Karin's greatest joy in life was her family, although she might've said it was a diet coke from Sonic. She was a devoted single mother, who raised two children and countless other "bonus" children. Karin spent her entire adult life nurturing the bonds of her family. She also loved her dog, Gracie, who she spoiled daily with lots of cuddling and treats. Karin's gentle spirit & warm embrace will be missed so deeply by her family & friends.

A funeral service will be held 2 PM Friday, September 12th, 2025, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home at Jacksonville, with cremation services to follow. The family will meet friends from 1 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Friends are invited to join the family for a meal after the service at Centenary United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. Monetary donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Karin's name, while flowers can be sent to the family directly or to the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
