Obituary

Kathy Lynn Canaday Seymour (born April 15, 1949) passed peacefully into Heaven on January 29, 2024.

Kathy lived a full life, growing up in Johnston City, IL as the youngest of 6 children, born to Jerry and Bertha Hard Canaday. While attending Southern Illinois University, she met Jim Seymour, the love of her life. The two married in Johnston City, IL on September 5, 1970. They soon moved to St. Louis where Kathy earned a degree from Forest Park Community College and had 2 children - Angie and Michael. In 1978, the family moved to Jacksonville, IL. Kathy spent her career working as a secretary for Faith Lutheran Church, the manager at Mrs. Tucker's Credit Union, and a patient registration clerk for Passavant Area Hospital, where she eventually retired in 2014. She also kept the books for the family business of Seymour Builders for over 30 years. Kathy had a deep love for music and was a very talented singer, always participating in solos and ensembles at various church and community events throughout her life. She enjoyed singing The Star Spangled Banner at many patriotic events and frequently participated in various ensembles like the Two by Two gospel group, The Jacksonville Symphony Chorale, and the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church choir. One of her proudest moments was singing at Carnegie Hall with her sister, Marcia, in 2016. Kathy accepted Christ as her Savior as a young girl and lived her life in His service. One of her favorite verses to live by was Romans 8:6: "For to set your mind on the flesh is death, but to set your mind on the Spirit is life and peace." Kathy especially loved studying the Old Testament and enjoyed participating in many Bible studies throughout the years. Almost every card or letter she wrote was always accompanied with a timely Bible verse.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Bertha Canaday; a sister, Myrna Newenham; and a brother, Fred Canaday.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Jim Seymour of Jacksonville. She is also survived by her daughter, Angie Seymour Stubbs (Weldon) of Kansas City, MO and her son, Mike Seymour of Jacksonville; six grandchildren: Rachel D'Nagy (Danny) of St. Louis, MO; Grant Stubbs of Kansas City, MO; Luke Stubbs of Kansas City, MO; Anthony Seymour of Roodhouse, IL; McKenna Seymour of Roodhouse, IL; and Adeline Seymour of Roodhouse, IL.

Kathy is also survived by three beloved siblings: Gerald Canaday (St. Louis, MO), Marcia Cochran (The Villages, FL), and Steve Canaday (Marion, IL) as well as many nieces and nephews.
