Obituary

Linda June Martin, 81, a lifetime resident of Jacksonville, Illinois passed away Saturday, June 7, 2025, in her home surrounded by her loving family after a long journey of Alzheimer/Dementia.

She was born September 2, 1943, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Wayne W. & Nellie F. (Wankel) Devoy.  She married her loving husband, Earl Martin on November 4, 1961, in Jacksonville, who preceded her in death on January 14, 2011. She is survived by two daughters and one son, Susan Martin-Rivas (husband, Edwin) of Rockford, Cheryl Cooper (husband, John) of Jacksonville, and Michael Martin (wife, Manda) of Jacksonville, and her step-daughter, Diane Evans of Jacksonville; her grandchildren, Canduss Larson (husband, Carl) of Rockford, Tyler Griffin (wife, Katelyn) of Jacksonville, Logan Griffin (wife, Ashley) of White Hall, and Griffin Martin of Jacksonville, Blaine Larson (husband, John) of Divernon, Brooke Hoots (husband, Andy) of Murrayville; her great grandchildren, Camden, Brody, and Hunter Connell of Rockford, Pierce, Vivianne, and Gwendolyn Griffin of White Hall, and she was expecting a new great grandchild, Griffin (in September, 2025), and several nieces & nephews whom she loved and spoiled.  She is also survived by her sister, Rita Devoy-Pennell of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Bernard W. Devoy (surviving wife, Linda) of Topeka, Kansas.

Linda was a 1961 graduate of Jacksonville High School and attended Browns Business College. She was a homemaker spending her time sewing, cooking, and cleaning. Her passion was outdoor work, and "weeds didn't stand a chance" in her vicinity. For over 50 years, she was an avid cake and cookie baker/decorator. Her home-cooked fried chicken and homemade noodles were her specialty with cherry pie for dessert. She was always at the service of guests and family, as no one ever left hungry or thirsty. Everyone was always welcome, especially her grandkids and children that she babysat.  Walking and caring for her grand dogs was a big part of her life, as the dogs provided comfort and companionship.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to the Jacksonville Lions Club.  The family would like to give special thanks to JET Healthcare & Moments Hospice. A private Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a later date. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville is assisting the family. Condolences may be shared online at buchanancody.com.
