Lura Emily Brockett, 89, of Jacksonville, IL, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023, in rural Alsey. She was born Feb. 4, 1933, in Shelby County, the daughter of Allen Thurman and Lula Belle (Allsop) Wiley. She was first married to Verne F. Haynes. She later married Wendell Greene Brockett, Lt. Col. USAF Ret., on April 5, 1982, in Macon, and he preceded her in death on June 5, 2017. She is survived by two sons, Robin (Susie) Haynes of rural Alsey and Jon (Mary) Haynes of Clinton, IN; three stepchildren, Robert Brockett of Oswego, Janis (Ronald) Carnes of Warrensburg, MO and Barbara Brockett of Escondido, CA; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two children, James Derek Haynes and Rita Haynes Blocksom; two stepchildren, Wendell Brockett (surviving wife, Kathleen) and Rebecca Brockett; and several brothers and sisters. Lura was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed traveling to further her hobby of genealogy. A funeral service will be held 11 am Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, where the family will meet friends 10-11 am prior to the service. Committal services will be held 3 pm Friday at Mound Cemetery near Cowden. Memorial gifts are suggested to Shelby County Genealogy Society. Condolences may be left online at buchanancody.com.
