Lyle Dean Walker, 81, of Jacksonville, IL passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023, at his home. He was born February 20, 1942, in Carrollton to Leonard Sr. and Margaret Starner Walker. He married Vonda Lea Thompson on August 1, 1969, in Literberry and she preceded him in death on June 12, 2012. He is survived by one son and six daughters, Myron (Betty) Thompson of Bethalto, and Susan (George) Franklin, Debbie (Bo) Hayes, Faye (Rich) Hayes, Vicki (Ron) West, and Paula (L.C.) Clinton, all of Jacksonville, and Tammy (Tim) Schmidt of Girard; sixteen grandchildren, Misty, Brad, Denver, Travis, Christopher, Jessica, Kyle, Tracey, Tyler, Tara, Jayden, Leon, Shawn, Sara, Mitchell, and Mariah; eighteen great grandchildren; six brothers and six sisters, Kenton, Maurice Gene, Claude, Mike, Jerry, Roger, Mary, Martha, Marilyn, Marsha, Linda, and Lois. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of his caregivers over the years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and three brothers, Harold, Kenyon, and Leonard Jr. Mr. Walker was a Vietnam War veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from March 31, 1964-March 26, 1966. He retired from Morgan County Animal Control after 25 years of service. Lyle liked hunting, camping, fishing, and mushrooming. He also loved Jacksonville sports, and would often be found on the sidelines of a high school football game, at the top row of bleachers at The Bowl, or at one of his grandchildrens events. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 30, 2023, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Youngblood Cemetery in Nortonville.
