Obituary

Marilyn Jean Schroeder Sorrill, 75, of Jacksonville, passed away on July 12, 2024, in Jacksonville.

She was born on April 8, 1949, in Jacksonville, to John H. and Louise Meyer Schroeder. On June 9, 1973, she married Michael N. Sorrill at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chapin.

Marilyn is survived by her three sons: Timothy Sorrill (Amanda) of Sitka, AK; Jacob Sorrill (Madeline) of Jacksonville, IL; and Nathaniel Sorrill (Morgan) of Danvers, IL. She was the proud grandmother of two granddaughters, Louisa Sorrill and Scout Sorrill. She is also survived by her brother, Byron Schroeder (Carol) of Dekalb, IL, and many nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Michael N. Sorrill, and her siblings: Phyllis Schroeder, Edward Schroeder (Theresa, surviving), Barbara Dorsey, and Darlene Schroeder.

A 1967 graduate of Triopia High School, Marilyn earned her degree in Home Economics from Western Illinois University. After college, she met the love of her life, Michael, at his family's restaurant in downtown Jacksonville, where she was a frequent visitor. She retired from the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired (ISVI) after more than 20 years of dedicated service in the student records office. Prior to that, she worked for Country Companies and Illinois Power.

Marilyn was a woman of many talents and passions. As a Master Gardener, she found great joy in tending to her backyard oasis. She also had a knack for baking, particularly her famous cheesecakes, which were adored by everyone fortunate enough to taste them. Marilyn was dedicated to her community, often volunteering her many talents to support local events and organizations. Her infectious smile and dimpled cheeks brought joy to everyone around her. Above all else, Marilyn cherished her role as a mother; raising her three boys and seeing them flourish with their own families brought her unparalleled joy and pride.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to all of Marilyn's friends for their love and support in recent times.
