Mark A. Morthole, 67, of South Jacksonville, IL, passed away Monday, March 15, 2021, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born August 27, 1953, in Jacksonville, the son of Edward J. and Dorothy L. Patterson Morthole. He married Judith A. "Judy" Smith on July 19, 1991, in Jacksonville, and she preceded him in death on September 23, 2020. He is survived by one daughter, Sheila (Richard) Hembrough of Jacksonville; one son, Shawn Morthole (fiance Tiffney Lawlor) of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren, Kevin and Kenzie Hembrough, Layken and Camden Morthole, MaKalyla Lawlor, and Caleb and Colten Lenhausen, all of Jacksonville; one brother, Steve (Marty) Morthole, and one sister, Dixie (Mike) Holtgrewe, both of Jacksonville; two nieces, Tiffany McDannald and Tarah (Chris) Richardson, both of Jacksonville; and several great nieces and nephews. Early in his life, Mr. Morthole worked for his brother, Steve Morthole Masonry. He then worked at the Jacksonville Developmental Center, retiring after 30 years of employment. Mark was very witty and was always in good spirit. He was very generous, and he especially loved his family. The family will host a graveside service 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2021, at the Diamond Grove Cemetery Columbarium. Memorials are suggested to the South Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department.
