Mary Lee Coffey, 75, of Virginia, IL, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, at her home. She was born Aug. 13, 1946, in Morgan County, the daughter of Robert Glenn "Red" and Ruth Ella Osbourne Walbert. She married James Virgil Cooksey on July 20, 1972, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 1982. She later married Kenneth Wayne Coffey on Aug. 13, 1986, and he preceded her in death. She is survived by one son, Wesley A. Cooksey of Virginia; two daughters, Laura Faye (Mike) Lovegrove of Springfield, and Kendra Kaye (Jason) Coffey-Wolfgang of Portland, OR; three grandchildren, Savannah E. Cooksey, Morgan L. Chaney, and Mason J. Cooksey; and one brother, Ken R. Walbert of Elmgrove, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James Robert Walbert and Wayne Eugene Walbert; and one sister, Rita Jo Walbert. Mary was a 1967 graduate of Passavant School of Nursing. She held a variety of nursing positions in the area including Memorial Medical Center, St. Johns Hospital, local nursing homes, and in-home nursing. She was a life-long member of Literberry Baptist Church where she played the piano. She loved to play cards, enjoyed trivia clubs, and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed following college basketball and was an avid Kentucky Wildcats fan. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 2021, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia. The family will meet friends 5-7 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Due to COVID-19 mandates, masks are required inside the funeral home.
