Mary Ann Melton, 88, of Jacksonville, IL died Friday, May 27, 2022, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville. Mary Ann was born April 20, 1934, to Bess Hoover and George Raymond Graddy in Enfield, Illinois. She was the youngest of five children. Her siblings Charles, Gene, Bob, and Norma all preceded her in death. She attended elementary through high school in neighboring Carmi, Illinois. She met and married Rev. John E. Hunt of Dale, Illinois. They gave birth to two sons, Steven J. Hunt (wife, Jean) and Mark D. Hunt (wife, Maureen). For 20 years, the Hunts pastored Methodist churches in Shawneetown, New Athens, Olney, Pocahontas as well as a church in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Mary Ann lost the love of her life, Johnny, in 1972. Mary Ann and her son Mark relocated to Lincoln, Illinois to be closer to her mother, her brother Bob, and her sister Norma. In addition to her two sons, Mary Ann was also blessed to have one granddaughter, two grandsons, and one great-grandson. In 1982, Mary Ann married Jackie P. Melton and they resided in Lincoln, Taylorville, Robinson, and Jacksonville, and he preceded her in death on April 14, 2017. Mary Ann was a Christian her entire life and served the Lord in many capacities including a longtime volunteer at Passavant Hospital. She requested her obituary include these final words, "Dont grieve over me but rather grieve for those who have not accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior." Cremation rites have been accorded. Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Passavant Hospital Auxiliary.
