Mary Louise Mudd, 93, of Jacksonville, Illinois, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2022. She was born April 17, 1929, in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of Louis S. and Helen (Hempel) Ahlquist. She married Ralph Linus Mudd, Jr. from Cahokia on May 13, 1950. Ralph passed away earlier this year, on January 18, 2022. Mary is survived by three children, Kathleen Louise Mudd, Ralph Linus, III (Connie) Mudd, and Richard Kevin (Sherry) Mudd, all of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Kurt (Nicole) Merriken of Trinity, Florida, Ashlyn Edginton of Springfield, Kevin Mudd, Jonathan (Katie) Mudd, and Joseph Mudd, all of Jacksonville; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty (Ahlquist) Reolo, and two brothers, Robert Ahlquist, and Charles Ahlquist. Mary was a 1946 graduate of East Alton-Wood River High School. In 1953, Mary, Ralph, and their young family moved to Jacksonville. Mary liked being resourceful and would harvest and preserve strawberries, raspberries, corn, tomatoes, and other produce from the family garden for many years. She also swam many miles for many years at the Jacksonville YMCA. Mary and her husband Ralph spent each March and October for the first twenty years of their retirement acting as campground hosts at Montauk State Park on the Current River in Missouri.
