Michael Stewart Weir, of Jacksonville IL, passed away at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital October 28, 2026.

Mike was born September 28, 1948, to Mayme and Lee Weir, in Topeka KS. After graduation from Topeka West High School, he attended Illinois College, Jacksonville, graduating with a BA in 1970. While at IC, Mike was an active member and officer of Gamma Nu literary society. After college, he was employed in the insurance industry; as a Spanish teacher in local central IL school districts; and as a coaching staff and front office member of the Springfield Cardinals baseball team. He loved baseball, and his knowledge of its history and statistics was encyclopedic.

Mike’s greatest enjoyments centered on his extended Gamma Nu family, Cardinal baseball, Kansas Jayhawks basketball, and Illinois history. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mike is survived by his brother Scott (Katy) Weir, of Topeka KS, and nephews Evan and Cameron.

Cremation rites have been administered. There will be a private family burial in Kansas at a later date. Memorials are suggested in Mike’s name to Gamma Nu Alumni Fund, c/o C. E.
