Penny Pauline Mitchell, 61, of Murrayville, IL died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023, at her home. She was born Nov. 14, 1961, in Rolla, MO the daughter of Daniel Arthur Cook Sr. and Carol Irene Waldron Cook Roberts. She married Richard Adam Mitchell on Apr. 25, 1992, in Jacksonville and he survives. She is also survived by her son, David James Cook of Murrayville; daughter, Samantha (husband Cody) Kitselman of Murrayville; her grandson, Coltyn Kitselman; Chelsie Sonneborn, who Penny thought of as a daughter; brother, Daniel Arthur Cook Jr. of Jacksonville; and three half-brothers, Patrick Joseph Roberts of Jacksonville, George Roberts of Springfield, and Terry Cook of St. James, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one half-sister. Early in her life, Mrs. Mitchell worked as a Hospice worker and also at a nursing home in St. James, MO, enjoying taking special care of others. She currently worked at Jacksonville County Market for more than 20 years and she loved her customers dearly. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Jacksonville. Penny enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, spending time outdoors, shopping and going to yard sales, and riding motorcycles with her husband. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandson. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Murrayville City Cemetery.
