Richard A. "Jake" Shipp, 78, of Jacksonville, IL passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, at his home.

He was born Dec. 21, 1946, in Carlinville, the son of Orville T. and Joan (Von Behren) Shipp. He married Wanda E. Wilson on June 14, 1985, in Jacksonville and she survives.

He is also survived by two sons and two daughters, Timothy (Heather) Shipp of Athens, Casey (Travis) Owens of Navarre, FL, Christopher (Shanna) Shipp of Jacksonville, and Corey Wynn of Roodhouse; eleven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two sisters and one brother, Linda Williams of Florida, Mike Shipp of Virden, and Susan (Keith) Coe of Virden. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Blake Shipp.

Mr. Shipp was a 1965 graduate of Virden High School. He had worked at Anderson-Clayton in Jacksonville and then owned and operated Shipp Home Improvement for 45 years. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. In his youth Jake enjoyed playing baseball and in later years playing softball, fishing, and camping. He also enjoyed sleeping, watching Cardinals baseball games and any football games on television.

The family will meet friends 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville. A private burial will be held at Diamond Grove Cemetery at a later date.
