Ricky A. Greer, 71, of Buffalo, Illinois, died Sunday, November 1, 2026, at his home.
He was born October 21, 1955, in Springfield, the son of Willard Jessie and Nellie Lucille (Carroll) Greer. Rick married Dorothy Meyer on July 1, 1978, at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Ashland and she survives.
He is also survived by his children, Christa (Chris) Turner of Hudson, Allen (Sara) Greer of Williston, North Dakota, and Tracy (Derek) Heinz of Rochester; grandchildren, Marissa (Colton), Weston, Colton, Braeden, Bailee, Jackson, and August; and great granddaughter, Elena. Rick is also survived by his siblings, Fred Greer of Jacksonville, Will (Polly) Greer of New Berlin, Nancy (Ray) Rosenbeck of Dawson, Kenny Greer of Ashland, and Barb (Dave) Troxell of Ashland; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Larry, Loren, Donna Coultas, Danny (surviving wife Carolyn), Peggy Taylor, and Eddie.
Rick grew up in Ashland. In his younger years, he enjoyed racing (and winning) with his red and black 1972 El Camino. After meeting and marrying Dorothy in 1978, they later moved to Edinburg and raised their family there for the next fifteen years. He was vice president of the Edinburg Athletic Club and coached Allen’s little league baseball team.
He began his working career with TC Electric, building grain bins, before he took a painting job with Sangamon Realty and stayed with them for over thirty-five years.
Rick was a servant of God, always kind and giving to those in need. He valued quality time and making sure needs were met instead of material gifts. He and Dorothy were parishioners of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield and formerly St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Ashland.
Rick and Dorothy never missed a sporting event or dance recital, as he absolutely loved time spent with his kids and grandkids. He also loved fishing and going to Chick-fil-A. Rick had a great sense of humor and will be remembered for his loving and jovial spirit.
A funeral mass will be held 10 AM Friday, November 13, 2026, at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Ashland, with burial to follow at St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery. The family will meet friends at St. Augustine Parish Hall, across from the church, on Thursday from 4 – 7 PM. Memorial donations are suggested to Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, or the American Cancer Society. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of the arrangements.
