Robert Steven Merriman, 62, of Virginia, IL, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 27, 1961, in Beardstown, the son of Norman L. and Joan I. (Severns) Merriman. He previously married Tracey Miller Wisdom on Feb. 21, 1987, and they have one surviving daughter, Jessica Merriman (Joseph Chaney) of Virginia, IL.

He is also survived by three grandchildren, Kaison Merriman, Brody Chaney and Phoebe Chaney; four brothers, Tom (Sue Ann) Merriman of Arizona, Bert (Tammy) Merriman of Arizona, Bill (Kim) Merriman of Virginia, IL and Chris Merriman of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Judy Gilbert (surviving husband, Ron of Jacksonville); and three brothers, Michael Merriman, Larry Merriman (surviving wife, Joyce of Virginia) and Jim Merriman.

Robbie was a graduate of Virginia High School where he was a talented football player. He worked as a woodworker while living in Phoenix, AZ. Upon his return to Virginia, he worked as a forklift operator for JBS in Beardstown for over 30 years. Rob was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and any football team. He enjoyed gardening of all kinds, and he especially loved his grandkids.

The family will host a Celebration of Life Gathering 2:00 PM Sunday, January 7, 2024, at East Side in Virginia.
