Robert C. Winkelman, 70, of rural Virginia, IL, died Saturday, June 4, 2022, at his home. He was born May 27, 1952, in Springfield, the son of Charles Frederick and Mildred Dorothy Hackman Winkelman. He married Kirby Drennan on Feb. 9, 1996, in Virginia, and she survives. He is also survived by one son, Dirk Charles Winkelman (companion, Lucy Cade) of Ankeny, IA; his stepson, Joel (wife, Kayse) Drennan of Forest, VA; three grandchildren, Zoey, Ollie and Luna; one sister, Charlene (Dave) Kelber; sister-in-law, Nancy (Gary) Becker; two nieces; and several great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Bob was a graduate of Springfield Southeast High School. He initially began working for FS in Virginia and then worked for UPS in Jacksonville for over thirty years until his retirement. He attended the Congregational Church UCC in Jacksonville for many years. When his kids were younger, he enjoyed watching them play sports. He enjoyed working on his land, hunting, fishing, and raising and selling swans. He also enjoyed working on his old trucks and tractors and riding his bike. The two highlights of his life were his cross-country trip on his motorcycle and his trip to see Dirk in Colorado in his 85 Chevy Silverado. A memorial service will be held 11 am Thursday, June 9, 2022, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, where the family will meet friends following the service.
