John Roger Hester, 73, of Bluffs, IL, died Thursday, April 29, 2021, at his home. He was born May 6, 1947, the son of Hubert and Louise Dickman Hester. He married Janet Marie Clark on May 4, 1974, in Meredosia and she preceded him in death on November 5, 2007. He is survived by one daughter and three sons, Kristy (Gary) Holsman of Concord, Mike Hester (fiance Melissa Fearneyhough) of Naples, Steve Hester (Heather Spires) of Bluffs, and Mark Hester of Bluffs; twelve grandchildren, Joshua Holsman, Tyler Holsman, ShiAnn Fearneyhough, Cierra Hester, Ashley Fearneyhough, Wesley Fearneyhough, Braidin Hester, Haily Hester, Kari Anders, Kendra Hester, Mackinsey Hester, and Madison Hester; five great grandchildren, Isabella Holsman, Bryson Holsman, Jaxton Whicker, Mason Camp, and Maverick Lynch; and one brother, Harold Lee Hester. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one grandson, Isiah Nunes. Mr. Hester was a 1967 graduate of Meredosia-Chambersburg High School. He then served in Taiwan as a medic in the U.S. Air Force from 1967-71 during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge, he began a 35-year career at National Starch in Meredosia, retiring in 2005. He was a member of Bluffs United Methodist Church. In his younger years, Roger enjoyed fishing and hunting. He will be greatly missed by his dog, Angel. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Meredosia, with burial at Versailles West Cemetery.
