Obituary

Roger R. Staake, 70, of Jacksonville, IL, and formerly of Meredosia, IL, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025.

He was born April 26, 1954, in Beardstown, the son of Ray and Roberta L. "Bert" (Carls) Staake of rural Meredosia.

Roger is survived by his sisters, Pat Gerecke of Jacksonville and Sandy (James) Brady of Chatham; foster sister, Cheryl (Curt) Campbell of Meredosia; nieces and nephews, John Devlin, Lori Devlin, Tyler Brady, and Kaci Brady; foster nieces and nephews, Melanie Scheafer, Danielle Almeter, and Daniel Albers; and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Richard W. Gerecke; foster sister, Joyce Albers; and foster niece, Nichole Donofrio.

Roger graduated from Meredosia-Chambersburg High School in 1972 and Spoon River College in 1974. After graduation, he began working at Prairieland FS, where he was an LP Gas Salesman for forty years, earning multiple Salesman of the Year Awards. Growing up, he enjoyed helping out on the family farm, and in his free time, could be found boating and water skiing on the Illinois River. He was also part of a weekly bowling league for many years. Roger had a deep passion for his family and was especially present and involved with his nieces and nephews. After retiring in 2013, Roger enjoyed being part of Paul Nienhiser's racing crew. Most will remember Roger as an avid college sports fan, most notably the "Flying Illini" of the 80s, and a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. Due to his many LP clients across the county and his down-to-earth personality, Roger could not go anywhere without running into someone he knew. He will be sorely missed by many.
