Obituary

Rosemary Jokisch, 84, of Jacksonville, peacefully passed from this life surrounded by family on December 4, 2023.

She was born on November 14, 1939, in Peoria, IL to Emanuel and Gertrude Leinweber and was baptized at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington, IL. She married Robert E. Jokisch on September 17, 1960, at St. Mark's. They shared sixty-three years together in marriage.

Rosemary is survived by her husband, Robert; her son, Bruce (Debbie) Jokisch of Virginia, IL, grandson, Eric (Kayla) Jokisch; great grandchildren, Wirth, Von and Wynn; granddaughter, Taylor (Henry) McClure; and great grandson, Max; her daughter, Regina (David) Shea of Lubbock, TX; and granddaughter, Fiona Shea; her son, Chris (Kim) Jokisch of Raleigh, NC; and grandson, Quinn.

She is also survived by her twin sister, Rosalie Eggert of Hastings, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Ron Eggert.

Rosemary graduated from Washington (IL) High School in 1957 and went on to Carthage College where she met Robert. After marrying and raising their three children, Rosemary completed her bachelor's degree in Gerontology in 1987. Her career in gerontology began as a caseworker for the Prairie Council on Aging, progressing to leading the organization as Executive Director.

Throughout her life, Rosemary was active in-service organizations including the Cass County Extension Homemaker's Club and the Walnut Grove Club. She served on the board of the Illinois College Fine Arts Series. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, where she served as church council president and most recently, St. John's Lutheran in Springfield, where she participated in the sewing circle ministry.

Music was an important part of Rosemary's life. In childhood, she and her twin sister, Rosalie, shared piano duets at hometown events. Rosemary served as church organist for many years at Faith Lutheran Church. In her retirement, she continued to enjoy playing piano duets with friends and family.

Rosemary was an avid bridge player and a prize-winning seamstress. In addition to gardening and keeping a beautiful home, Rosemary's greatest joy was spending time with her family and extended family, including cross-country travel with Robert to watch their grandchildren's activities and, most recently, watching her great grandchildren at play.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Springfield. An informal visitation and luncheon will be held following the services. Burial will then be held at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Memorials are suggested to Concordia Village Scholarship Fund, St. John's Lutheran Church Pipe Organ Fund, or Cass County Food Pantry.
