Ruby L. Smock, 87, of Jacksonville, IL and formerly of Ashland, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville. She was born April 26, 1934, in Roodhouse, the daughter of Henry and Gertrude Moore Newingham. She married Robert C. Smock on Sept. 21, 1956, in Roodhouse and he preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 2014.She is also survived by four children, Robert L. (Tina) Smock of Springfield, MO, Twila (Mark) Hawkins of Jacksonville, Kenneth Smock of Jacksonville, and Barbara (Donald) Embree of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Candis Smock, Robert "RJ" Smock, Johnny Smock, James "JD" Scott, Trista Scott, Mark A. Hawkins, Steven Douglas Six, and Adam Lee (Amanda) Six; eight great grandchildren; one sister, Edna Richards of Riverton; and one brother, Charles (Norma) Newingham of Taylorville. Ruby enjoyed puzzle books, reading, and she especially loved her grandkids. A graveside service will be held 12 noon Monday, Aug. 9, 2021, at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
