Ruth Ann Bettis, 79, of Jacksonville, IL died Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital. She was born June 6, 1943, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Stella Adams. She married Mervan Allen Bettis on Jan. 21, 1967, in rural Murrayville and he died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022. She is also survived by one son, David (Cynthia) Bettis of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Samantha Marie (Dustin) Cody of Anchorage, AK and Joshua Lee Bettis (Katy Hood) of Fredericksburg, VA; five siblings, Kenneth Adams of Chino, CA, Carole Rose of Pittsfield, Susan (Bruce) Tweedy of Jacksonville, Doris (David) Snyder of Jacksonville, and Nancy (Ray) Allen of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by her mother; four brothers, Robert Adams (surviving wife Marcella of Jacksonville), Harold Adams (surviving wife Pam of Georgia), Charles Adams (surviving wife Barb of Jacksonville), and John Adams; and one sister, Mary Kathryn Rose. Mrs. Bettis worked for 45 years at Bound to Stay Bound in Jacksonville. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Winchester. Ruth was a fantastic cook, she loved taking vacations with Mervan, and also spending time with her siblings. Her pride and joy were her son and grandchildren. A combined funeral service for Ruth and Mervan will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Due to health issues, masks are required. The family will meet friends 10-11 a.m. prior to the service.
