Ruth M.
Coy
Feb 23, 1925 — Jun 22, 2025
No one is ever as interested in everything you do as your mother, or as proud of you.
Beloved mother and grandmother, Ruth M. Coy, 100, and formerly of Jacksonville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025, in Naples, Florida. Born in Kansas City, Kansas, on February 23, 1925, to Charles and Frances Mitchell, Ruth was raised in Chicago and was always proud to say that she was in the first class to graduate from Gage Park High School. Secretarial school prepared her for a lifetime career and lead her to meet and marry the love of her life, Robert S. Coy, who preceded her in death.
Ruth was an avid reader, loved doing crossword puzzles, and toasting the end of each day with a glass of wine before dinner. She also enjoyed both playing and watching golf as well as playing card games. But watch out, she was known for her competitive nature! In fact, she often said, "If you don't come in first, you lose."
Ruth is survived by her two children, Susan Newman (Jim) of Naples, Florida, and David Coy (Liz) seasonal between Chetek, Wisconsin and North Fort Myers, Florida; four grandchildren, Chad, Jeff, Jon, and Betsy; and four great grandchildren, Grace, Keegan, Elodie, and Beckham. A private graveside service will be held at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, Illinois, on Monday, June 30, 2025. Buchanan and Cody Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, Ruth would love it if at 5:30 some night, you lift a glass and celebrate a life well lived.
